K-pop group BTS has decided not to send their music to the Grammy Awards to be held in 2027. The band stated that they wanted the music to be heard without being divided by region or language. The announcement comes after the Recording Academy created a new Asian pop category.
los angeles [यूएस]July 29 (ANI): Global K-pop boy band BTS on Wednesday announced that it will not be submitting its music for consideration at the 69th Grammy Awards to be held on February 7, 2027.
The announcement was made on Wednesday through a statement shared by all seven members of the group – RM, Jin, Suga, J-Hope, Jimin, V and Jungkook – on their respective Instagram handles.
Why did you distance yourself from Grammy?
According to Variety, the statement read, “We have decided not to submit (music) for consideration at the GRAMMYs this year. We hope that our music will be heard and loved for what it is, rather than being divided by region or language. We thank the ARMY and all those who have always stood with us.”
The decision came after the creation of the new category
The K-pop boy band’s announcement comes just a month after the Recording Academy announced a new ‘Best Asian Pop Music Performance’ category. Describing the category, the Academy wrote, “This category recognizes artistic excellence in Asian pop music performances originating from or widely recognized in Asian markets, including, but not limited to, K-pop, J-pop, and C-pop, and which make meaningful use of one or more Asian languages. The award is presented to the performing artists.”
BTS’s old relationship with Grammy
It’s worth noting that BTS has been nominated for a GRAMMY before, including in the Best Pop Duo/Group Performance and Best Music Video categories. All seven members have been voting members of the Recording Academy since 2019.
