Delhi government has approved the Lakshmi scheme which gives Rs 2500 to women every month. The government says that the first installment will be sent to the accounts of women on the occasion of Rakshabandhan. But as simple as the announcement of the scheme may seem, taking advantage of it will not be as easy. Many conditions have been kept for the scheme, which include income limit, government job, taxes, benefits of other government schemes and the most discussed condition of three children.
This is the reason why a large number of women now want to know who will be able to take advantage of this scheme and who will be left out of it. According to many reports, not just thousands but lakhs of women may be deprived of the scheme because of this one condition. In such a situation, this scheme has gone beyond an election promise and has now become a big political and social issue. Meanwhile, politics regarding this scheme has also intensified.
Arvind Kejriwal targeted
Aam Aadmi Party leader Arvind Kejriwal, in a post on social media platform X, targeted Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh chief Mohan Bhagwat and Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta. Kejriwal wrote that Mohan Bhagwat is saying that every Hindu should have as many children as possible, while Rekha Gupta is saying that if you have more than three children, you will not get the benefit of Lakshmi Yojana.
Which women will not get the benefit of the scheme?
- If there are more than three living children, the benefit of the scheme will not be available.
- If any member of the family is in a government job then the woman will not be eligible.
- A woman who pays income tax will also not get the benefit of the scheme.
- Women receiving other government pension or regular financial assistance have also been excluded.
- It will be necessary to be a permanent resident of Delhi and to be within the prescribed income limit.

Why did the condition of three children become the biggest issue?
The most discussed rule in Lakshmi Yojana is the rule under which women with more than three living children will not get the benefit of the scheme. According to media reports, about 15 percent of the women of Delhi may be left out of the scheme only because of this condition. The government argues that such a condition has been applicable in many government schemes before and its objective is to limit the benefits of the schemes to needy families.
17 lakh women claim benefits
However, the opposition says that no such condition was put forward at the time of elections. They allege that now the number of beneficiaries is being reduced by adding rules. This is the reason why this condition has become the center of political debate. According to the report, there are 73 lakh women voters in Delhi, according to the government, only 17 lakh women will get the benefit of this scheme, that is, only 3 out of every 4 women are eligible for this scheme.
What are the conditions of this scheme?
To avail the benefits of this scheme, women will have to fulfill some important conditions. Only women aged 21 to 60 years will be eligible under the scheme. Only one woman from a family will get the benefit of this scheme and if more than one woman in the family is eligible, then the oldest woman will be given priority. Apart from this, if the woman or any member of her family has a four-wheeler in the family name, then she will not be able to avail the benefits of this scheme.
Women who have a criminal case registered against them or any member of their family have also been kept out of the scope of this scheme. The benefit of this scheme will be available only to those women who fulfill the eligibility conditions set by the government. For this, the annual income of the family should be less than Rs 2.5 lakh and the woman should be a permanent resident of Delhi for at least 10 years.
When will the first installment of the scheme be received?
Under Lakshmi Yojana of Delhi Government, eligible women will be given financial assistance of Rs 2500 every month. Online applications for this scheme will start from August 1, 2026. The government will launch an online portal for this, where women will be able to apply. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has said that after completion of scrutiny of applications and documents, the first installment of Rs 2500 will be directly transferred to the bank accounts of eligible women on Rakshabandhan, August 28.
Which documents will be required?
For this, online applications will start from August 1, 2026 and the application portal will also be launched on the same day. While applying, necessary documents like Aadhar card, income certificate, ration card, bank passbook and passport size photo will have to be submitted. The government says that the amount will be sent to the accounts of eligible women only after scrutiny of all the applications.

Money will be given after verification of documents
Delhi government says that the objective of Lakshmi Yojana is to provide financial assistance every month to economically weaker women. Registration of eligible women for this will start from August 1. After verification of documents, Rs 2500 will be sent directly to the bank accounts of eligible women. The government claims that this will strengthen the economic condition of women and will help them in everyday expenses.
Why is the opposition raising questions?
While sharing the post on X, Arvind Kejriwal wrote, Mohan Bhagwat ji is saying that every Hindu should produce as many children as possible. Rekha Gupta ji is saying that if there are more than three children then the benefit of Delhi Lakshmi Yojana will not be available. The poor Hindu is confused. Rekha ji and Bhagwat ji should come together and tell Hindus what they should actually do.
What were the conditions mentioned earlier?
Delhi government has changed the name of Mahila Samridhi Yojana to Delhi Lakshmi Yojana. If we talk about the conditions at the time when this scheme was discussed, then to avail the benefits of the scheme, it is necessary for the woman to be a resident of Delhi for at least 10 years, the annual income of the family should be less than Rs 2.5 lakh and only one woman from a family should be eligible. Apart from this, there should not be any criminal case registered against the applicant.
