MP and actress Kangana Ranaut visited the Wives of India Festival in New Delhi on Sunday. He saw 116 traditional handloom weaves from across the country at the exhibition and interacted with master weavers and appreciated their craftsmanship.
New Delhi [भारत]July 26 (ANI): MP and Bollywood actress Kangana Ranaut visited the Women of India Festival at the Central Cottage Industries Emporium (The Cottage) in Janpath, New Delhi on Sunday. During her visit, the actress visited an exhibition featuring 116 traditional handloom weaves from across the country and interacted with master weavers from different states. He appreciated their craftsmanship and the rich heritage of handloom traditions of India.
Kangana Ranaut took a closer look at many other famous handloom traditions including Banarasi, Chanderi, Maheshwari, Jamdani, Moonga and Bhagalpuri silk. According to the DC Handlooms press note, he praised India’s vibrant textile heritage and said that such exhibitions not only strengthen the cultural identity of the country but also provide an important platform for artisans and weavers.
What did Kangana Ranaut say?
The actress and politician expressed her happiness at attending the Wives of India Festival on Sunday. Kangana Ranaut said, “I am very happy to be here. As you know, when people used to meet me, they used to say that they like my acting very much. They used to ask me where I get my sarees from. So, everyone is curious to know where I get my sarees from. I tell everyone that I get my sarees directly from the weavers. Be it Make in India, Made in India or self-reliance. The Prime Minister should make efforts for this.”
Kangana further said, “We have learned about the struggles of the weavers and the respect they deserve. We are trying our best for the same. I want to thank you all for this initiative and especially for Handloom Day on 7th August.”
The exhibition is open till 7th August
According to the outlet, the exhibition is being jointly organized by the Development Commissioner (Handloom), Ministry of Textiles and Central Cottage Industries Corporation of India (CCIC). It will be open to the public from 10:00 am to 7:00 pm every day till August 7.
The festival brings together 116 traditional handloom weaves from across India under one roof. National award winning weavers from different states are displaying and offering for sale a wonderful collection of traditional sarees, dupattas, shawls and other handmade textile products. (ANI)
