Water, milk, curd, honey and Ganga water are offered to Lord Shiva, but different traditions are also prevalent regarding the material of worship. Therefore, it is considered better to perform puja according to the tradition of your home and local beliefs. But it is generally advised to avoid offering Ketaki flowers and turmeric on Shivalinga.

According to religious beliefs, the month of Saavan is dedicated to Lord Shiva. During this period, special importance has been given to offering water and worshiping Shivalinga.
