Dharmendra Pradhan was born on 26 June 1969 in Talcher, Odisha. His father Devendra Pradhan was also a senior BJP leader and had held the post of Union Minister in the Atal Bihari Vajpayee government. Talking about education, Dharmendra Pradhan completed his graduation from Talcher College. After this he obtained a master’s degree in Anthropology from Vani Vihar campus of Utkal University. He was associated with politics since his student days and started his public life through Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP).
From ABVP to Central Government, this was the political career
- Dharmendra Pradhan initially worked in the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) and steadily rose in the organization. Considering his organizational ability, he started getting bigger responsibilities in the party.
- In the year 2004, he entered Parliament for the first time by winning the Lok Sabha elections. After this, he also remained a Rajya Sabha member and his role in central politics continued to strengthen.
- After the formation of Narendra Modi government in 2014, he got the responsibility of Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas. During this period, he played an important role in running big government programs like Ujjwala Yojana. Later he was also given the responsibility of Skill Development Ministry.
- After the Union Cabinet expansion in July 2021, Dharmendra Pradhan was given the command of the Education Ministry. During his tenure, issues like implementation of the New Education Policy (NEP), changes in the education system and examination reforms were prominent.
