It is alleged that Ranu was blackmailing Hridesh since marriage and was constantly pressurizing him to get money and property transferred to her name. Under this pressure, Hridesh was ready to give him a plot of half Biswa land.

His daughter Sonam says that when her father went to the bathroom on Thursday afternoon, her stepmother Ranu and relatives from her maternal home poured inflammable substance on him and set him on fire. When neighbors saw Hridesh burning, the accused woman pretended to extinguish the fire to save herself. During this time, she also got minor burns and is currently admitted in the district hospital. Kotwali Station House Officer (SHO) Chandrakant said that on the basis of the written complaint of the deceased’s daughter Sonam, a case has been registered against the accused stepmother Ranu under relevant sections of the law. The police is thoroughly investigating the case and the burnt accused woman is undergoing treatment in police custody.
