India and Tanzania held the third Foreign Office Dialogue in Dar es Salaam, discussing trade, defence, and digital cooperation. Both countries agreed to hold JCM and Defense Cooperation Committee meetings. The talks were led by Janesh Cain and Felister Rugambwa.
dar es salaam [तंजानिया]July 25 (ANI): India and Tanzania held the third Foreign Office Dialogue (FOC) in Dar es Salaam on Wednesday. Its objective was to review and strengthen bilateral cooperation in trade, defence, digital public infrastructure and healthcare.
The meeting was led by Janesh Cain, Joint Secretary (Eastern and Southern Africa) in India’s Ministry of External Affairs and Felister Rugambwa, Director of the Department of Asia and Australia in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation of Tanzania, the Ministry of External Affairs said on Friday.
During the talks CAN also met the Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, Ambassador Samuel William Shelukindo.
The Ministry of External Affairs said that during the discussions, both the delegations reviewed the entire gamut of bilateral relations, focusing on trade and investment, development partnership, defense and security cooperation, digital public infrastructure, agriculture, healthcare, culture and people-to-people exchanges.
To further enhance momentum in key areas, both sides agreed to hold the upcoming Joint Commission Meeting (JCM) and Joint Defense Cooperation Committee meetings at mutually convenient dates.
In addition to bilateral cooperation, the officials also exchanged views on regional and international issues of mutual interest, and expressed satisfaction at their close coordination at the United Nations and other multilateral fora.
The Ministry of External Affairs noted that both the countries have agreed to hold the next round of Foreign Office Dialogue in India.
Zanzibar President’s visit to India
Earlier, President of Zanzibar and Chairman of the Revolutionary Council of the United Republic of Tanzania, Hussein Ali Mwinyi, paid an official visit to India from July 17-20 at the invitation of Vice President of India CP Radhakrishnan. He was also accompanied by First Lady Mariam Mwinyi.
President Mwinyi and Vice President CP Radhakrishnan reviewed the entire gamut of India-Tanzania relations and explored new avenues to expand bilateral cooperation in areas such as blue economy, tourism, technology, health and education, the Ministry of External Affairs said in an official statement.
According to the statement, President Mwinyi held bilateral discussions with the Vice President of India. “The two leaders reviewed the entire spectrum of India-Tanzania relations and explored new avenues to expand bilateral cooperation in areas such as blue economy, tourism, technology, health and education”
“Both sides positively appraised the recent expansion in bilateral trade and investment relations and development partnership,” the statement further said.
“President Mwinyi extended an invitation to the Vice President of India to pay an official visit to Tanzania, which was graciously accepted.”
Meeting with Foreign Minister Jaishankar
External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar met the visiting dignitary on Sunday. It further said that the discussions focused on the comprehensive development partnership between the two countries, including the development of IIT Madras Zanzibar as a center of excellence for higher education in Africa.
