Ramayan Katha: The curse of Nalkuber and Brahma ji, due to which Ravana was afraid of touching Mother Sita.

Ramayana story

Ramayan Story: Ravana, the ruler of Lanka, was extremely knowledgeable. There was no greater Pandit than him in Tretayuga. He was a great devotee of Shiva. He cut off his head and offered it to Mahadev. He had conquered all the gods and goddesses including Yamraj, Kuber and Indra and forced everyone to live under him. The super powerful Ravana had abducted Mother Sita and this became the reason for his end.

Instead of keeping Mother Sita in the palaces of Lanka, Ravana had kept Mother Sita in Ashoka Vatika. Mother Janaki was in Ravana’s captivity, but Ravana could never muster the courage to molest her mother. The reason behind this was the curse received by Ravana, which was given to him by Nalkuber and Brahma ji, sons of Kuber Dev. Ravana was afraid only because of the curse. He knew that as soon as he touched Mother Sita, he would end. This entire story and the curse has been described in detail in the Uttarkand of Valmiki Ramayana.

The terrible curse of Nalkuber

According to the story of Uttarkand of Valmiki Ramayana, once Ravana, who was on a conquest, had conquered all the worlds. Now his eyes were on heaven. He was on his way to conquer heaven. At the same time, Ravana saw the nymph Rambha, wife of Nalkuber, son of Dhanraj Kuber. Rambha was very beautiful and seemed to be Ravana’s daughter-in-law, but Ravana forcibly raped Rambha without her consent.

When Nalkuber came to know about this, he became very angry. He cursed Ravana that if from today onwards he touches any woman without her consent or tries to rape her by force, then at that very moment he will break into a hundred pieces and he will die.

curse of brahma ji

Once a nymph named ‘Punjiksthala’ also became a victim of Ravana’s misdeeds. Punjiksthala used to reside in the assembly of Lord Brahma. Lord Brahma was very angry due to this incident. He had cursed Ravana that if he tried to touch any woman without her consent, his head would burst and burn to ashes. Ravana was under the curse of Nalkuber and Brahma ji, hence he never tried to touch Mother Sita.
