According to Drik Panchang, the Ekadashi date of Shukla Paksha of Jyeshtha Adhikamas is starting on 26th May at 05.10 am. This date will end on May 27 at 06:21 am. In such a situation, keeping in mind the Udayatithi, the fast of Padmini Ekadashi will be observed on 27th May, Wednesday.
Story of Padmini Ekadashi (Story of Padmini Ekadashi)
The fast of Padmini Ekadashi is named after Queen Padmini, wife of King Kirtivirya. There is a mythological story behind this. According to the story, during Tretayuga, there was a king named Kirtavirya in Mahishmati Puri state. The king had 1000 queens, but none of them had a son. The king was always worried about this matter. The king tried hard to get a son, but he failed. Then the king decided to do penance. When the king was going for penance, his beloved queen Padmini also agreed to accompany him.
After this, King Kirtivirya and Queen Padmini went to Gandhamadan mountain for penance. It is said that the king meditated there for 10 thousand years, but still he did not get a son. Then Anusuya Maa told Queen Padmini a solution. He asked the queen to fast on Ekadashi of Shukla Paksha of Adhikamas. The queen kept a fast. At the end of the fast, Lord Vishnu appeared and asked Queen Padmini to seek a boon. On this the queen asked God to give the boon not to me but to my husband.
Then Lord Vishnu asked the king to ask for a boon. After paying obeisance to Lord Vishnu, the king said that he wanted a son with all the qualities who could not be defeated by anyone except Shri Hari. Lord Vishnu gave a boon to the king. After some time the queen gave birth to a son. Who became famous by the name of Kartavirya Arjun. Later, this child also captured Ravana. Later it was killed by Lord Vishnu’s own Parashuram incarnation.
