There is silence again in Delhi! DMRC suddenly closed 16 main metro stations due to security reasons. After all, why was the lifeline of the capital stalled till further orders? Know the scary truth behind this.
Delhi Metro Stations Closed: On Thursday morning, when lakhs of passengers of Delhi and NCR left for their offices, colleges and destinations as usual, they had no idea that restrictions had once again been imposed on the Delhi Metro tracks. Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) suddenly made an announcement at 7:30 in the morning, which created a stir in the entire capital. In view of the inputs received from security agencies and the increasing tension in the city, Delhi Metro in one stroke completely closed 16 most prominent and busy stations till further orders. This is the second consecutive day when the wheels of the metro have stopped in the areas called the heart of Delhi, due to which there is a situation of great panic and confusion among the passengers.

After all, what happened that suddenly the metro administration had to take such a big and strict step? Behind this mystery and tension is the fierce agitation being carried out by students and protesters regarding the ‘NEET paper leak controversy’. Intelligence agencies had issued an alert after incidents of violent clashes, stone pelting and injuries to policemen took place in Central Delhi on Wednesday night. To prevent the protesters from marching towards Parliament House and sensitive government buildings, locks have been hung on the entry and exit gates of these stations at the behest of the police. There is already huge traffic jam on the roads and now this decision of Metro has added fuel to the fire.

According to the official list released by DMRC, the 16 stations which have been closed are considered to be the most VIP and commercial hubs of Delhi. The full list of these closed stations is as follows:

- Patel Chowk
- Ramakrishna Ashram Marg
- Barakhamba Road
- Supreme Court
- service pilgrimage
- Janpath
- Mandi House
- Central Secretariat
- ITO
- Delhi Gate
- Indraprastha
- Khan Market
- Jor Bagh
- Shivaji Stadium
There is a huge crowd of passengers gathered outside these stations since morning and people are seen arguing with the security personnel. The entire station premises have been taken under tight security by paramilitary forces and Delhi Police.

The only support at the interchange: Passengers gathered at Rajiv Chowk and Mandi House.
Amidst this heavy restriction and problems of passengers, DMRC has also announced a small relief. According to officials, even though passengers will not be allowed to exit or enter at these 16 stations, ‘interchange’ facilities at major transit hubs like Rajiv Chowk, Mandi House and Central Secretariat will operate normally. That means passengers will be able to change trains from one line to another (like Yellow to Blue line). However, due to the exit gates being closed, there is a huge crowd of passengers inside these stations, due to which maintaining security has become a big challenge for the administration.
When will this suspense end? Eagerly waiting for the next order
On Wednesday too, similar restrictions were imposed in the morning and by the evening when the situation became normal, all the stations were opened. But the situation remains even more sensitive on Thursday. DMRC has clearly said that all these 16 stations will remain closed “till further orders”, which simply means that till the ongoing movement on the roads and the security threat is completely averted, Delhiites will have to face this digital and physical lockdown. Now the biggest suspense is whether these stations will be able to open this evening, or will Delhi once again have to face some major disturbance and long blackout? Passengers are being advised to check the live advisory of Metro before leaving home.
DMRC’s appeal and what next?
DMRC has appealed to the passengers to check the official updates before starting the journey and use alternative routes. At present it has not been made clear how long these restrictions will remain in force. The corporation has only said that the stations will remain closed till further orders.
