Nowadays, to stay fit, people go to gym and also do many types of physical activities. This helps in keeping the body healthy, but if you do not exercise properly then it can also increase the risk of injury. Wrong posture, starting exercise without warm-up, doing excessive workout increases the risk of injury. In many cases, people even ignore the initial injury.

Why do injuries occur while exercising and how can they be prevented? To know the answers to many such questions, we Dr. Skand Sinha, Senior Professor and Consultant, Orthopedics, Sports Injury Center of Safdarjung Hospital Have talked to.

Question: Which sports injury is being seen most among youth and gym goers these days?

answer: Dr. Skanda says that nowadays ligament injury, muscle strain, knee pain, shoulder injury and lower back pain are the most common problems. The main reasons for this are wrong technique, exercising without warm-up and excessive training. It is important to know that everyone’s body is different and you should do exercise according to your body.

Question: Can ignoring minor injuries be dangerous in the future?

answer: Yes, if initial pain, swelling or stiffness is ignored, the problem can become chronic. If the pain persists or there is difficulty in moving any part of the body, it is important to consult a doctor. If you ignore it, it can become a serious problem in the future.

Question: What is necessary before any physical activity or workout?

answer: Warm-up is necessary before doing any kind of exercise. With this, the muscles and joints of the body are prepared for exercise. This improves blood flow and may reduce the risk of injury. Doing warm-up and stretching for at least 10 to 15 minutes is considered very beneficial for the body. You should do the main workout only after warming up.

Question: If someone suddenly gets injured while playing, what should be done immediately?

answer: In such a situation, adopt the RICE formula, Rest (rest), Ice, Compression (light pressure) and Elevation (keeping the injured part elevated). If there is excessive pain or swelling, contact the doctor immediately.
