Madhya Pradesh government is preparing to promote organic farming, education and animal husbandry in tribal areas. Chief Minister Mohan Yadav has given special instructions to the officials for the development of Baiga, Bharia and Saharia communities.
Preparations have started to give a new direction to the development of tribal areas in Madhya Pradesh. Chief Minister Mohan Yadav clearly indicated in the review meeting of the Tribal Affairs Department that now not only schemes but changes should be visible on the ground in tribal areas. The government is working on a strategy to improve the standard of living of the tribal society by combining organic farming, education, scholarships, animal husbandry and basic facilities.
In the review meeting held in Bhopal, the Chief Minister directed the officials to promote organic farming on a large scale in tribal areas. He said that a special team should be sent from Madhya Pradesh to study the way tribal farmers are doing organic farming in Dantewada district of Chhattisgarh so that the successful model there can be implemented in the state also.
Organic farming can change the picture of tribal areas
Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav believes that there is ample availability of natural resources in tribal areas and there is immense potential for organic farming here. If tribal farmers get proper training, market and technical support, there can be a big change in their income. The government is now focusing on such schemes by which tribal farmers move away from chemical farming towards natural and organic farming. This will reduce the cost of farming and the possibility of getting better prices for the products in the market will also increase.

Special focus on Baiga, Bharia and Saharia tribes
In the meeting, the Chief Minister gave instructions to work continuously for the overall development of the special backward tribes of the state – Baiga, Bharia and Saharia communities. The government is preparing to further strengthen schemes related to education, health, employment and nutrition for these communities. Experts believe that effectively delivering the benefits of the schemes to these tribes has been a big challenge for the state government. In such a situation, emphasis is now being laid on increasing departmental coordination and monitoring.
Emphasis on improving the quality of education and hostels
The Chief Minister also gave instructions to improve the quality of schools, ashrams and hostels run by the Tribal Affairs Department. He said that providing better education and safe living to tribal students should be the priority of the government. Officials informed in the meeting that out of the best 10 districts of the state in the high school and higher secondary examination results of the year 2026, 7 districts belonged to the tribal area. The government has considered this as a positive sign.
Scholarships worth crores of rupees distributed
The government also shared the data of scholarship schemes in the meeting. According to officials-
- From December 2023 till now, scholarships worth Rs 137 crore 52 lakh have been given to 3 lakh 65 thousand students of classes 9 and 10.
- Under the Post Matric Scholarship Scheme, Rs 673 crore 64 lakh was paid to 4 lakh 28 thousand students.
Apart from this, at present 2671 hostels and ashram schools are being run in the state.
Animal husbandry and milk production will increase in tribal areas
The Chief Minister told the officials that animal husbandry should also be promoted in the tribal society. The government wants tribal families to earn additional income from dairy and animal husbandry along with farming. This will strengthen the rural economy and new employment opportunities will also be created.
Focus on coordination between departments
The Chief Minister said that different departments will have to work together for the development of tribal areas. Schemes like roads, education, health, water, farming and employment should be implemented in an integrated manner so that people can get direct benefits. He also talked about increasing the participation of social organizations so that a model of development can be prepared while preserving the traditional tribal culture and social values.
Government’s focus: Along with development, identity should also be protected.
The government is now working on such a policy in which along with development, the culture, tradition and lifestyle of the tribal society can also be protected. This is the reason why schemes based on organic farming, traditional agriculture and local resources are being given priority. In the coming time, this focus of the government on organic farming, education improvement and basic facilities in the tribal areas of Madhya Pradesh can give a new direction to the rural and tribal economy of the state.
