The Gujarat government provided financial assistance of Rs 25 lakh each to the families of 115 GSRTC employees who lost their lives during the Corona period. Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghvi handed over the checks and said that the government will always stand with these families.
Gandhinagar (Gujarat) [भारत]July 23 (ANI): During the COVID-19 pandemic, Gujarat State Road Transport Corporation (GSRTC) employees served the public dedicatedly, even risking their lives. Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghvi handed over checks of financial assistance of Rs 25 lakh each to the families of 115 GSRTC employees, including drivers and conductors, who lost their lives after getting infected while on duty, a release said.
Addressing the programme, the Deputy CM said that administrative and legal decisions in the government are generally taken as per the established laws and rules. Providing such assistance to the employees of the Corporation under the existing legal and administrative framework was a separate and complex matter.
CM’s decision was taken ‘from the heart’
However, instead of being guided only by rules and regulations, Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel took a compassionate decision ‘from the heart’. Considering the invaluable services rendered by these employees by risking their lives, the Government, on humanitarian grounds, treated them as ‘Corona Warriors’ in this particular case and sanctioned financial assistance.
‘Government will always remember the sacrifice’
The Deputy CM said that in the difficult times of the COVID-19 pandemic, when people were confined to their homes, ST drivers, conductors, clerks, managers and other employees continued to perform their duties for the convenience of the citizens without worrying about their families. The release further said, “The government will always remember his invaluable sacrifice. He emphasized that no amount of financial assistance can replace the loss of a loved one.”
He said that ST families have always been a part of the government family and will always remain so. “The government will stand with these more than 115 families and support them in every possible way during these difficult times.”
Minister of State for Transport Praveen Mali, Principal Secretary Harit Shukla, Transport Commissioner Rajendra Kumar, senior GSRTC officials, representatives of the transport department and family members of the deceased employees were present at the event. (ANI)
