Questions raised on government accountability

Earlier on July 19, the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) on Sunday held a press conference at Rajiv Bhawan in Guwahati in support of Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi’s nationwide “Echoing the Students” campaign alleging that students across the country are facing increasing mental stress due to the Centre’s education policies.

Addressing the media, Congress MLA Abdur Rahim alleged that the future of students has been undermined by repeated exam paper leaks under the BJP-led government and questioned the accountability of the Union Education Ministry.

He claimed that despite several paper leak incidents in major examinations, Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan has not resigned, alleging that the Center has failed to discharge moral responsibility.

Making a historical comparison, Rahim mentioned former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri’s resignation as Railway Minister after a train accident, and said the current government lacked such accountability.

He also said that Rahul Gandhi has consistently raised issues related to students and urged people to unite against the policies which he said are affecting the education sector.

Rahim also criticized the alleged removal of environmentalist Sonam Wangchuk from her protest site and ban on her activities, calling the government’s actions undemocratic. (ANI)
