New Delhi [भारत]July 22 (ANI): Samajwadi Party MP Dimple Yadav on Wednesday raised questions on the central government over the way it handled the NEET protests. He asked why the government was not accepting his demands and why its MPs were not talking to him. Yadav also criticized the behavior of the police towards children, saying that the videos circulating on social media show the attitude of the police during the protests.
Speaking to ANI, Dimple Yadav said, “What is being shown on social media is the attitude of the police towards children. Why is the government not accepting their demands? Why can’t the government answer… Why are none of their MPs coming forward to talk to them?” Samajwadi Party MP Zia Ur Rehman demanded the resignation of the Education Minister on this issue, saying that the party has also demanded a discussion on this in Parliament and called for fixing accountability for those responsible. Rehman said, “The Samajwadi Party is demanding the resignation of the Education Minister… The party also demanded a discussion on the issue in Parliament in this regard. Instead of shielding those responsible, they should be held accountable.”
Deadlock in Parliament, opposition adamant on resignation
The deadlock in Parliament continued on Wednesday over the resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and the opposition’s insistence on discussion under a special rule on NEET-UG paper leak. The government has said that it is ready for debate, but opposition members should not impose new conditions. Amidst this deadlock, there were several adjournments in the Rajya Sabha and later it was adjourned for the day. When the House reconvened after the earlier adjournment at 2 pm, Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge said Pradhan should resign for a fair discussion. He said, “If there is to be a fair discussion, the education minister should first resign. Unless he resigns, there will be no fair discussion here.”
Opposition members, including DMK’s Tiruchi Siva, demanded a discussion under Rule 267, which involves suspending specific rules related to listed business in the Rajya Sabha. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju said that when the government is ready for debate, the opposition is imposing new conditions. House leader and Union Minister JP Nadda alleged that India Bloc members were behaving irresponsibly. He said, “The conduct of the Indi alliance is very irresponsible. We can clearly see this undemocratic conduct in Parliament. Parliamentary decorum is being violated and democratic values are being violated. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju has just said very clearly that the government is ready to discuss all issues.”
He further said, “Our government is also ready to discuss the NEET paper leak and all matters related to it. We have a transparent government under the leadership of PM Narendra Modi. They (the opposition) do not believe in democracy or democratic values.” Rijiju later told reporters that the government has said in Parliament today that it is fully ready to discuss the NEET exam paper leak and all related matters. “We have said from day one that the government is always ready to discuss any issue that is in the national interest and in the interest of the youth. However, the rules under which this discussion will take place should be decided… Taking it straight to the streets and creating ruckus; this is not right. The discussion should be meaningful… The government wants a detailed discussion on the NEET exam and the steps taken to address it… Citizens have every right to know what and what action has been taken.” (ANI)
