According to the legend, once the great sages named Sanak, Sanandan, Sanatan and Sanat Kumar went to Vaikuntha Dham for the darshan of Lord Vishnu. At that time Jai and Vijay were at the door. Both of them stopped the sages from going inside. The sages did not like this. They felt that Jai and Vijay had become proud of their position and got angry at this and cursed both of them.
The sages cursed him to leave heaven and take birth in the world of death. Jai and Vijay got scared after hearing the curse. He took refuge in Lord Vishnu. God told them that the curse given by the sages cannot be undone, but God showed two ways to his gatekeepers. The first is that both of them should worship God by living on earth for seven births. Secondly, one should become God’s enemy in three births and after getting freedom from His hands, should return to Vaikuntha Dham.
Got freedom from curse after three births
Jai and Vijay chose another path to quickly return to God. Then both of them were born in demon form. In their first birth, both were born as Hiranyaksha and Hiranyakashyap. At that time Lord Vishnu in his incarnation as Varaha and Narasimha killed both. In the second birth, Jai and Vijay became Ravana and Kumbhakarna. Then Lord Vishnu ended both of them in the form of Shri Ram. In the third birth, both were born as Shishupala and Dantavakra. Then Lord Krishna killed him. In this way, after taking three births, Jai and Vijay became free from the curse of the sages.
