Ranveer Singh’s Dhurandhar 2 OTT cut leaves fans shocked over brutal changes

New Delhi: Dhurandhar: The Revenge has returned to the spotlight following its international OTT release, with viewers claiming the streaming version features several noticeable differences from the theatrical cut released in Indian cinemas. The action drama, led by Ranveer Singh, arrived on Netflix for audiences in the United States and Canada nearly eight weeks after its theatrical run began. Promoted as a “raw and undekha” version, the OTT release on May 14 quickly triggered conversations online as fans began comparing screenshots, violent sequences and editing changes between both versions.

Several social media users alleged that the streaming cut restored scenes trimmed during theatrical certification, particularly graphic moments involving violence and gore. Others also pointed out differences in music cues, text formatting and post-credit scenes. The film, directed by Aditya Dhar, has already crossed the Rs 3,000 crore mark globally, making it one of the biggest Hindi commercial successes of the year.

Fans compare OTT and theatrical versions

Soon after the film’s streaming debut, viewers flooded social media with side-by-side comparisons of scenes from the theatrical and OTT versions. Many claimed the digital release featured longer and more graphic sequences that were either shortened or removed during the Indian theatrical release.

One user reacted to a key emotional sequence involving Ranveer Singh’s character Hamza and wrote, “They changed Hamza’s reaction in the OTT uncensored version!!!”

Several users also shared clips from the controversial ‘hammer scene’, which reportedly underwent cuts during theatrical certification. Reacting to the restored sequence, one social media user wrote, “Censor board saale theatre version mai ish scene ka pura peak 10 sec kaat diya.”

Violent scenes spark online discussion

A major point of discussion online involved the film’s brutal action scenes. Fans claimed the OTT version amplified the darker tone of the film by restoring violent visuals that were toned down in cinemas.

“This doesn’t feel like a normal OTT version at all. Feels like they unlocked the darker side of the film now,” one viewer posted online.

Another user criticised the censorship decisions surrounding the theatrical release and wrote, “Bro, they have shown brutal scenes in the uncensored version of Dhurandhar the Revenge.”

A separate reaction read, “CBFC, you ruined an A-rated film peak experience.”

Danish Pandor’s scene grabs attention

Actor Danish Pandor also became part of the online conversation after fans revisited a particularly disturbing scene involving his character Uzair. The sequence, where the character allegedly plays football with a rival’s severed head, had reportedly been shortened by nearly 25 to 30 seconds in cinemas.

Reacting to the uncensored OTT version, one fan wrote, “Damn, uncensored version truly showed Uzair’s insanity.”

The restored scene has since become one of the most discussed moments from the streaming cut.

Technical changes in OTT version

Apart from violence-related edits, fans also noticed several technical changes in the streaming release. Some viewers claimed the background score in certain sequences had been modified for better impact.

“Music also improved in some scenes in the OTT version,” one social media user wrote.

Others highlighted changes in font styling and subtitle placement. One detailed comparison online noted that the theatrical version used larger Roman text positioned differently compared to the OTT release.

“As you can see, the Roman text was slightly bigger in the theatrical version, and was shifted upward to accommodate the smaller Devanagari text below it. I feel the OTT text size and placement looks much better,” the user commented.

Post-credit scene reportedly removed

Some viewers further alleged that the OTT version omitted a post-credit sequence featuring Omar, which had appeared in the theatrical release. While there has been no official confirmation regarding the removal, the reported change became another talking point among fans analysing the differences between both versions.

Dhurandhar franchise box office success

Alongside Ranveer Singh, the sequel also stars Sara Arjun, Sanjay Dutt, R Madhavan, Arjun Rampal, Rakesh Bedi and Gaurav Gera in important roles.

The franchise recently crossed Rs 3,000 crore worldwide, cementing its position among the year’s highest-grossing Hindi film franchises. With the OTT release now generating fresh discussion, Dhurandhar: The Revenge has once again found itself dominating online conversations beyond its theatrical run.
