New Delhi: A sensational murder case was reported from Maharashtra’s Mumbra area. The region lies very close to Mumbai. A woman allegedly murdered her lover, with the help of her husband and brother, said the police. The trio then proceeded to pack the body into a drum and disposed it off in a drain. The Mumbra Police cracked the murder case using technical investigation and mobile phone location data.
Who was the victim?
According to the Mumbra Police, a man named Arbaz Maqsood Ali Khan left his home on August 3,2026. The Mumbra resident left his home saying that he was going to Dadar for some work. However he did not return home that day. The family members searched for him in every possible location, they thought he might be at, but failed to find him. After failing to locate Khan, his father approached the Mumbra Police station and filed a missing complaint.
The Mumbra Police started their investigations and tracked details regarding Khan’s mobile phone location. It was found that the last mobile phone location of his phone was in Versova, Mumbai.
Based on suspicion, the police arrested a woman named, Mehjabeen into custody. They started interrogating her. Initially she made all efforts to mislead the investigators and gave evasive answers. But under sustained interrogation, she made certain confessions which shocked the police.
The woman said that along with her husband Hasan and brother, Tariq Sheikh she had conspired to demand ransom from Arbaz and later murdered him. The three had called the victim to Versova on the pretext of discussing some money matter. When Khan refused to give them money, they beat him up with plastic pipes. The man died due to the beatings.
After killing Khan, the three of them stuffed his body in a green-coloured drum. They then threw the drum in a drain located in a secluded area, in an attempt to destroy evidence, said the police.
Woman, brother arrested; husband on the run: Police
The Mumbra Police have now arrested the woman, Mehjabeen Shaikh, and her brother, Tariq Shaikh. The woman’s husband, Hasan and one of his accomplices, Muzammal Pathan are absconding. A search is on to trace them and arrest them at the earliest, said officials.
The police have registered a case against the accused, under charges of murder, conspiracy and other sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Investigations are still on in the case.
