Bengaluru Weather: Moderate to heavy rainfall expected from today

Bengaluru: After recent hot days, pre-monsoon showers are expected to increase in Bengaluru in the coming days. The city may witness moderate to heavy rainfall from May 15 to May 17. The change of weather will bring respite to the people of the city from the scorching heat in the last few days.

The city had earlier received around 111 mm of rain on April 30. The heavy rainfall led to waterlogging in various parts of the city, which also led to traffic congestion. However, rainfall decreased significantly after that.

31 mm of rain was recorded in Bengaluru in May

As per the weather department, only 31 mm of rain was recorded in Bengaluru in the first 13 days of this month, even as the monthly average was only 8.2 mm at the HAL Observatory. The Meteorological Department has predicted good rains.

According to the Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre (KSNDMC), the state may witness thunderstorms in several parts of Karnataka. According to it, thunderstorms with a wind speed of 40-50 kmph are expected in the southern interior of Karnataka till May 16. As per the report, there is a possibility of thunderstorms with lightning till May 17 in the coastal areas of Karnataka.

Pre-monsoon showers increased in Dakshina Kannada

Meanwhile, pre-monsoon showers have increased in parts of the Dakshina Kannada district on Wednesday. The region witnessed widespread rainfall and thunderstorms to several parts of the region. Amid changing weather conditions and heavy rainfall forecasts in the next few days, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for the coastal areas for the next two days

Thunderstorms along with moderate to heavy rainfall were reported from various parts of the Beltangady taluk. Among the areas include – Kashipatna, Venur, Kalmanja Mundaje, and Ujire. Cloudy skies and gusty winds with lightning activity were witnessed.
