Suriya’s Karuppu 9 am shows cancelled despite permission from TN government – Here’s why

New Delhi: The much-awaited Tamil action-fantasy film, Karuppu, starring Suriya and Trisha Krishnan, faced a hurdle on its release date. Just before the scheduled first-day-first-show, the film’s morning show at 9 am was cancelled or removed, leaving fans disappointed. The shows were cancelled despite Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay granting special permission for the early morning shows.

Why was Karuppa release delayed?

After the film did not premiere in theatres as per schedule, the film’s producer SR Prabhu announced the same on X (formerly Twitter). He wrote, “Due to unavoidable reasons, 9 AM shows will be cancelled for Karuppu. Our sincere apologies to everyone!”. Reportedly, the issue for the delay was “financial”.

Ruban Mathivanan of GK Cinemas was quoted as saying, “Financial issues and no idea on the start. A source also told the publication, “The producers are actively working to resolve the issue. If the ongoing discussions end positively, the shows are expected to begin either from 11 am or at least from the afternoon schedules.”

RJ Balaji also took to X to clarify the situation and wrote, “Dearest fans, I dont have a concrete answer to the current situation. Producers are doing their best to solve the hurdles. This film has always had hurdles, and somehow God has made us sail through all that and here we are after 32 months. This time as well, I have faith, complete faith in him. ”
