The wife was accused of murdering her husband after a dispute over not bringing a saree in Badlapur under Thane, Maharashtra. Initially it was reported to be an accident, but after the post-mortem confirmed death due to suffocation, the police arrested him.
Thane, Mumbai: A very sensational and shocking incident that puts relationships to shame has come to light from Thane district of Maharashtra. In Badlapur East area, a minor dispute over not buying a saree took such a violent turn that a happy family was ruined forever. A 30-year-old woman, in a fit of rage, attacked her own husband with a pressure cooker lid and then brutally strangled him to death. After this heinous murder, the accused woman hatched such a dangerous conspiracy to mislead the police that even Khaki himself was shocked when it was revealed.
The price of a saree is death: The bloody game started in a closed room?
This horrifying tale begins on the evening of July 19, when 35-year-old victim Hareshram Kishunji Singh was present at his home in Badlapur East. Hareshram’s wife, Sunitadevi Singh (originally a resident of Rohtas district of Bihar) had been demanding her husband to get her a saree for a long time. When Hareshram returned home that day without a saree, a heated argument started between the two. Within no time this argument turned into a terrible domestic quarrel. Sunitadevi, blinded by anger, lifted the lid of the heavy pressure cooker kept in the kitchen and started attacking her husband. By the time Hareshram, shocked and injured by the attack, could control himself, the woman strangled him, cutting off his breathing forever.
Mask of ‘accident’: A clever ploy to trap the police
After committing the crime, the accused wife did not panic, rather she prepared with a very cunning mind to throw dust in the eyes of the law. She informed the police that something terrible had happened to her husband and it was just an ‘accident’. On the basis of initial investigation and the crying drama of the wife, Badlapur East Police registered a case considering it as ‘Accidental Death’ (ADR). Sunitadevi thought that her vicious lie would never be caught and she would escape from the long hand of the law. But they say that ‘no matter how clever a criminal is, he always leaves some evidence behind.’ Same thing happened in this case also.

Secret revealed by medical report: ‘Violent asphyxia’ exposed
The biggest and shocking twist in this murder mystery came when the post-mortem of Hareshram’s body was done by the doctors of the government hospital. As soon as the medical report reached the hands of the police, the direction of the case completely changed. The forensic report of the doctors made it clear that Hareshram’s death was not due to any accident but in an unnatural manner. In the report, the cause of death was stated to be ‘violent asphyxia’ i.e. suffocation due to strangulation. After this revelation the police were shocked. Without wasting any time, Senior Inspector Nitin Patil of Badlapur East Police Station immediately started investigating the matter in depth.
Statements of owner and landlord: ‘Murderer’s wife behind bars
On the basis of the medical report, when the police strictly interrogated other members of the family of deceased Hareshram and his landlord, many serious contradictions came to light in the statements of Sunitadevi. Neighboring people also confirmed the screams coming from the house that day. When Sunitadevi, who was under deep suspicion, was interrogated in police style, her palace of lies collapsed like a house of cards.
Court sent him to police custody
On Tuesday, the police arrested the accused woman under sections of murder. Senior Inspector Nitin Patil said that the accused woman was produced in the local court, from where the court has sent Sunita Devi to police custody till July 29. The police are now investigating whether anyone else had helped the woman in this incident or whether it was just a result of momentary anger.
