Family’s allegation – were pressurizing for property

Monica’s family members have accused her husband and in-laws of assaulting her and pressurizing her to get the property worth about Rs 3 crore in their name. Her mother Renu Nagar told the police that on the day of the murder, Monica had called her and said that she was being beaten.

Monica’s brother also told that he had received calls from Monica, in which she said that she was being pressurized to give her share of the family’s land. Relatives claimed to have seen Monica’s body being placed in a black Fortuner outside Anuj’s house that evening.

Following the complaint, police have registered a case under sections 103 (murder), 238 (causing destruction of evidence) and 109 (attempt to murder) of the BNS against seven accused, including Anuj, his parents, younger brother, uncle, aunt and neighbor Karan Rawal alias Kannu. Karan Rawal was already arrested.

Police investigation and confession of the accused

Police said that Anuj was arrested with the help of electronic surveillance during a special operation. The SUV used in the crime has also been seized. During interrogation, Anuj admitted that Monica wanted to go to her maternal home, due to which both of them had an argument.

He claimed that family members later told him that Monica had hanged herself and she was declared dead at the hospital. He further said that the villagers had advised to burn the dead body. The postmortem report did not reveal the cause of death due to burns, but viscera samples have been preserved for forensic examination. Investigators are still trying to determine the motive for the murder, with particular focus on an alleged property dispute and the role of other family members.
