Shubman Gill, the Gujarat Titans skipper, looked ultra pleased with his pacers, who delivered with the new ball. He also praised the likes of Jason Holder, claiming him to be a very experienced cricketer. He also backed the likes of GT half-centurions Sai Sudharsan and Washington Sundar.
The Gujarat Titans could not make a promising start to the season as they lost some really close games at the start of the season, and then started off their wins with a first win against the Delhi Capitals, where they won the match by just 1 run. The Titans, since then, have kept their foot on the accelerator as they have hurried their way to the top of the points table.
Having played 12 matches, they now clearly have the upper hand over the likes of all opposition except for the Royal Challengers Bengaluru, who have a clear chance to reclaim their spot at the top of the points table after tomorrow’s game against KKR.
Sai Sudharsan and Washington Sundar help GT post a promising target of 169
Sai Sudharsan, the highest scorer from the previous season, looked in some promising touch this season as well. Sudharsan was one of the best batters on show and scored his fifth half-century of the season under those challenging conditions in Ahmedabad.
Sudharsan scored 61 runs off just 44 balls and scored those runs at a very crucial juncture when it mattered the most for the team. Washington Sundar, the all-rounder southpaw for the Titans, also made a significant contribution with the bat.
They posted a promising 168 after a poor start in the power play. 34/2 was the lowest score in the power play this season for the Gujarat Titans.
I think we bowled very well- Shubman Gill thankful to GT pacers
“Like we spoke at the toss; it was pretty nice. But I think we bowled very well. 170 on this kind of a wicket—we always knew it was going to be tricky. If we bowl well, we’re outside the leg stump and always in the game. We spoke about how if we get anywhere close to 160-170, I think it won’t be easy for them, especially with our bowling attack.
“So that was the chat in the middle, and also, given their batting lineup, especially the top three, I think the plans worked perfectly fine. Yeah, definitely,” said Shubman Gill on GT’s plan against the SRH top order.
“But also, I think the way Sai and Washi batted, getting us close to 170—at one point it looked difficult to reach there—and also, the way we bowled in the powerplay—we have been bowling pretty well in the powerplay. So kudos to both of our bowlers,” Shubman credited GT batters for their promising show on the challenging track.
Shubman Gill hails Jason Holder for his ‘experience.’
Shubman Gill was very happy to witness Jason Holder produce a stunning impact in the IPL season ever since he was brought into the playing XI. Gill hailed Holder for his experience and the way he has helped them control the innings with the ball.
“He’s such an experienced campaigner, and the kind of lengths he’s been hitting—he’s been very relentless for us, bowling almost in every game, four overs on the trot. Not easy in this weather, but he’s doing a terrific job for us,” Gill added about the veteran West Indian all-rounder.
Jason Holder has picked 13 wickets in this season of the IPL after returning to the IPL after two seasons. He has just played 6 matches into the competition.
