Sai Sudharsan Creates History, Breaks Virat Kohli’s Record; Becomes First Player In The World To…

Sai Sudharsan created history and broke a long-standing record of Virat Kohli as he continued his fine run of form during the 2026 Indian Premier League (IPL) match between the Gujarat Titans (GT) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Tuesday (May 12).

The left-hander scored his fifth century in the last six games after Pat Cummins won the toss and chose to bowl first.

Sudharsan made 61 runs in 44 balls as the Titans posted 168 on the board despite losing skipper Shubman Gill’s and star batter Jos Buttler’s wickets early. The 24-year-old’s knock included five boundaries and two sixes. It came at a strike rate of 138.64

Through the course of his knock, Sudharsan completed 500 runs this season and was the first batter to achieve the feat. The 2025 IPL’s orange cap winner now has 501 runs in 12 innings at a scoring rate of 155.59. He has made one century and five half-centuries so far. He was briefly the top-scorer of the season before Heinrich Klaasen went past him later in the match.

This is the third time in his IPL career that the Titans star has crossed the 500-run mark in a season after 2024 (527 runs) and 2025 (758 runs). Sudharsan is the first player with three 500+ run seasons at the age of 24. Previously, Kohli and Jaiswal had had two such campaigns before turning 25.

Sudharsan is also the youngest with three 500+ seasons in the history of the IPL. He broke a record that Kohli set at the age of 26 during the 2016 season of the league. Jaiswal has the chance to break the record if he manages to score 500 runs in the ongoing campaign. The Rajasthan Royals (RR) vice-captain has 315 runs in 11 matches so far.

Sudharsan is also the first player with three 500+ run seasons for the Titans in history. Skipper Shubman Gill has had two such seasons for the 2022 champions while Jos Buttler has crossed the milestone once.

Meanwhile, he is the fourth player in IPL’s history to have scored over 500 runs in three (or more) consecutive seasons in the league’s history. The feat has previously been achieved by David Warner (2014-2017), KL Rahul (2018-2021), and Virat Kohli (2023-2025).

Overall, he is the 12th player in the league to have scored 500 runs in a single campaign of the league thrice or more after Kohli (8), Rahul (7), Warner (7), Shikhar Dhawan (5), Suresh Raina (5), Chris Gayle (3), Gautam Gambhir (3), Jos Buttler (3), Suryakumar Yadav (3), Quinton de Kock (3), and Ruturaj Gaikwad (3).

Overall, Sudharsan has 2294 runs in 52 IPL matches. His batting average of 47.79 is the best among players with more than 500 runs.
