New Delhi: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an warning stating that Mumbai and several parts of Maharashtra are likely to face heatwave-like conditions for the next three days. The weather agency said temperatures are expected to rise gradually in the state till May 15.
According to the weather department, dry weather is expected to continue in most parts of Maharashtra. The IMD has also issued yellow alert for next five day in north and Central Maharashtra.
Coastal and inland Districts on alert
As per the department, Mumbai, Thane, Raigad and Ratnagiri are expected to see hot and humid weather. The report also warns that parts of Madhya Maharashtra and Marathwada may face heatwave conditions in some areas.
Districts like Dhule, Jalgaon, Nashik, Nandurbar, Pune, and Ahilyanagar will probably face heatwave conditions till May 14. Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Beed, Jalna, Hingoli, Parbhani and Nanded might also experience heatwave conditions from May 12 and 15.
Vidarbha bears the brunt
The region of Vidarbha has received a strongest warning. As per this, Akola may face heatwave conditions all five days. Amravati and Wardha could also see heatwaves later this week. Nagpur, Chandrapur, Gondia and several other districts have “No Warning” as of now.
The temperatures across several parts of Maharashtra will stay above normal, with North Madhya Maharashtra recording highest daytime temperatures between 41 degrees Celsius and 43 degrees Celsius. North Konkan, including Mumbai and near districts, likely record maximum 35 to 39 degrees Celsius, which is above normal. The minimum temperatures in the region stay between 26 to 30 degrees Celsius. Doctors have advised people to avoid going out in direct sunlight during peak hours. Temperatures in several areas are already above normal.
