Telugu Hanuman Jayanti 2026 Date: Hanuman Jayanti is one of the major festivals of Hindu religion, which is celebrated on different traditions and dates across the country. While in North India there is a tradition of celebrating Hanuman Jayanti on the day of Chaitra Purnima, in many states of South India this festival is celebrated on a different date. This year, Hanuman Jayanti was celebrated in North India on 2 April 2026, whereas now Hanuman Jayanti is being celebrated in the Telugu speaking areas of South India including Andhra Pradesh and Telangana on 12 May 2026. According to religious beliefs, Lord Hanuman had his first meeting with Lord Shri Ram on the tenth day of Krishna Paksha of Jyeshtha month. For this reason this day is considered especially sacred and the Telugu community celebrates it with great devotion.

According to the Panchang, Dashami Tithi started on 11th May 2026 at 3:24 pm and will end on 12th May 2026 at 2:52 pm. During this time, devotees can get special blessings by worshiping Lord Hanuman.
Why is Telugu Hanuman Jayanti different from North India?

Special traditions of Telugu Hanuman Jayanti
In Telugu speaking areas, the festival of Hanuman Jayanti is celebrated with utmost discipline and devotion. The most special tradition of this festival is considered to be Hanuman Diksha. Devotees take a pledge of 41 days of rigorous sadhana and fasting from Chaitra Purnima, which ends on the day of Hanuman Jayanti. This year this initiation is starting from 2nd April and will be completed on 12th May. Devotees follow many strict rules during initiation. Devotees wear saffron or orange colored clothes and wear Hanuman Diksha Mala around their neck. Along with this, they sleep on the ground, remain barefoot and follow celibacy.
Crowds of devotees gather in temples
On the occasion of Hanuman Jayanti, special pujas and bhandaras are organized in the temples of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. On this special day, devotees reach temples and offer vermilion, jasmine oil, basil and boondi to Hanumanji. Sunderkand recitation, Akhand Ramayan and bhajan-kirtan are also organized at many places.
