America’s big tech companies are laying off employees on a large scale due to the adoption of Artificial Intelligence (AI). This is not being said as a temporary but a permanent change. The money saved from salaries is being invested in AI, putting the future of tech employees at risk.
Washington: Since the arrival of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the tech world, most of the American companies are firing employees on a large scale. Economic experts believe that this is not a temporary change, but a permanent change. According to the data, 92,000 tech workers were laid off in 2026, while 9,00,000 people have lost their jobs since 2020. Of these, 20,000 people have been fired only from tech giants Meta and Microsoft. Companies like Amazon, Google, Oracle, Salesforce, Nike and Snap are also not lagging behind in layoffs. The reason for this is being said to be the adoption of AI and non-essential recruitments during the Corona period.
This process is not going to stop
Meta is planning to lay off 8,000 more people in the coming days and has decided not to make new recruitments for 6,000 posts. At the same time, Microsoft is encouraging 7% of its American employees to take voluntary retirement. Nike has eliminated only 1,400 posts.
Huge investment on AI
On one hand, companies are laying off employees to reduce costs, while on the other hand, they are investing heavily in AI. According to an estimate, Alphabet, Microsoft, Meta and Amazon will together invest Rs 66 lakh crore in 2026. There will be savings of Rs 75,000 to 94,000 crore due to layoffs in Oracle. Companies which earlier earned revenue of Rs 472 crore with 250 employees, are now earning the same amount with just 50 employees.
According to the Glassdoor Employee Confidence Index, the confidence of employees in the tech sector about the future of their company has fallen by 6.8% to 47.2% in March. It is being said that due to this fear many people are leaving their jobs themselves.
Iran responded to America’s ceasefire proposal
Islamabad: Iran’s government news agency IRNA has reported that Iran has sent its reply to the US proposal to end the war through mediator Pakistan. Pakistan has also confirmed this. According to reports on Sunday, the first phase of the proposed plan will focus on ending the war as well as ensuring ‘maritime security’ in the Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz.
A Pakistani diplomatic source said that Iran’s reply has been sent to America. However, Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has refused to say what is in Iran’s proposal. Washington sent a 14-point proposal to Iran earlier this week.
