In fact, many women experience heart attack warning signs that are much more subtle, and one of the most common is something we often brush off as stress.

Why Women Often Misread Heart Attack Symptoms

Women’s bodies are different from men’s, and that includes how heart disease shows up.

For years, heart attack symptoms were defined based on men’s experiences. That classic crushing chest pain? It does happen, but women are more likely to experience less obvious symptoms.

These can include:

  • Chest pressure or tightness that feels like anxiety

  • Shortness of breath

  • Fatigue that feels unusual or sudden

  • Pain in the neck, jaw, shoulders, or upper back

  • Nausea or lightheadedness

The tricky part is that many of these feel very similar to stress, especially during midlife when and life demands are high.

I’ve had women tell me they thought they were having a panic attack, only to later discover it was something much more serious.
