Struggle for majority, TVK eyes smaller parties
TVK has won 108 seats, requiring 118 seats for majority in the 234-member assembly. Congress, CPI and CPI(M) have already supported Vijay, but despite this the party is a few seats away from majority. In such a situation, the support of VCK has become the key to forming the government. According to sources, VCK has made many big demands in return for support. These include the post of Deputy Chief Minister, additional seat in the cabinet, one MLA seat and Thol. This includes guaranteeing a future MP seat for Thirumavalavan. Apart from this, the party also wants concrete assurances on social issues like criminalizing honor killings and strict laws against caste discrimination.
