TMC suffered a big setback in the West Bengal elections 2026. 22 out of 35 ministers lost, including Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. This result reflects the deep anti-incumbency wave in the state and public dissatisfaction against the government.
Massive Defeat of TMC Ministers in West Bengal: Mamata Banerjee’s party has suffered a major setback in the 2026 West Bengal Assembly elections. While party chief Mamata Banerjee herself lost the election from Bhawanipur seat, many senior ministers of Trinamool Congress (TMC) were also sidelined by the public. The crushing defeat of Trinamool in Bengal is clearly pointing towards an anti-incumbency wave.
Defeat of 63% ministers: Big message from the public
A total of 35 ministers of the TMC government contested the elections, out of which 22 faced defeat. That means about 63% ministers could not save their seats. This result clearly shows that voters have rejected not just the candidates but the entire leadership. The most shocking thing was that Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee herself lost the election from her constituency Bhawanipur.
Ministers of important departments also lost
What makes these defeats more significant is the profile of the losing leaders. Even ministers holding many big and important departments could not win the elections. These also include ministers of Women and Child Development, Industry and Commerce, Education (School and Higher Education), Power and Housing Transport, Backward Class Welfare Department. This clearly indicates that the public rejected the entire model of governance.
