GDP of electoral states
There is intense political activity amid the results of the Assembly elections 2026. At the same time, the comparison of these states also becomes interesting regarding economic strength. These four states West Bengal, Assam, Tamil Nadu and Kerala play an important role in the economy of the country. But the question is, which state is at the forefront in terms of GDP i.e. Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP)? If we look at the data, the economic difference between these states is clearly visible.
The entire country’s eyes are on the assembly election results of West Bengal, Assam, Tamil Nadu and Kerala on May 4, 2026. Amidst the political equations, the economic condition of these states has also become a topic of discussion. If we compare on the basis of GDP i.e. Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP), then Tamil Nadu appears to be at the forefront among these four states.
Tamil Nadu
According to the estimate of GSDP of Tamil Nadu for 2026-27, it is around Rs 40.6 lakh crore. This state is leading in the country in industrial development, automobile sector, IT industry and manufacturing hub. Strong infrastructure and export-based economy have taken it to the top.
west bengal
GSDP of West Bengal is around Rs 21.5 lakh crore. This state has a strong hold in agriculture, service sector and MSME sector. Due to a big city like Kolkata, business activities are also fast here, which strengthens the economy of the state.
Keralam
GSDP of Kerala is estimated to be around Rs 16-16.5 lakh crore. The state remains economically strong due to the service sector, especially tourism, and remittances from NRIs.
Assam
The GSDP of Assam is approximately between Rs 7.4-7.5 lakh crore. This state is mainly dependent on agriculture, tea industry and oil-gas resources. Infrastructure and industrial development still need improvement, but this north-eastern state is moving towards rapid development.
What is GDP?
GDP is the total value of all goods and services produced in a state or country during a given period of time. It is considered the most important scale to measure the strength of any economy.
