OnePlus-Realme merger: Oppo reportedly planning big merger, here is why

OnePlus and Realme are reportedly moving closer under a unified structure with a new organisational shift, according to the latest reports.

According to popular tipster Digital Chat Station on Weibo, both brands may have consolidated their global as well as China operations into a newly formed sub-product center with an aim to streamline product development and strategy.

UPDATE: OnePlus has reacted to the speculations that it will continue to operate the business as usual.
“OnePlus India continues to operate its business as usual, with all local operations on track. We urge the media to exercise restraint before amplifying unverified speculation,” OnePlus spokesperson added.

The leak also suggested that Li Jie could lead this new division, reporting directly to Pete Lau. Along with the product integration, the move is said to bring marketing and after-sales services of both brands under a new shared framework.

This comes at a time when both brands are already closely tied to Oppo, which itself operates under the broader BBK Electronics ecosystem. OnePlus, founded in 2013, has gradually evolved into an Oppo sub-brand, while Realme, which began as an independent label in 2018, recently returned to Oppo’s fold earlier this year.

The industry experts believe that such integration can help Oppo pool resources more efficiently and strengthen its position across global markets. The reports suggest that early signs of this strategy are already visible with Oppo and Realme witnessing a notable growth in both domestic and international markets over the past year.

In the meantime, speculations around the OnePlus future in markets like India and Europe have surfaced online. These concerns intensified after the departure of OnePlus India head Robin Liu earlier this year.

While the company maintained that operations in India remain unaffected, reports indicated a restructuring where Liu was asked to report to Realme CEO Sky Li, a change that hinted at changing internal hierarchies.

Neither company has confirmed the merger. We have reached out to both Realme and OnePlus and will update the story as soon as we get any updates from the brands.
