Maharashtra Day Parade traffic advisory: Roads closed on May 1, know routes to avoid

Mumbai: The Mumbai Traffic Police has issued a detailed traffic advisory for central Mumbai ahead of the Maharashtra Day Parade at Shivaji Park on May 1. Restrictions will be in place from 6 am to 12 noon to manage movement during the event.

Several key routes will remain closed or regulated. Keluskar Road South and North will be shut for general traffic, allowing only authorised vehicles. SK Bole Road will operate as a one-way stretch from Siddhivinayak Junction to Portuguese Church Junction. Vehicular entry will also be restricted on Swatantraveer Savarkar Road between Siddhivinayak Junction and Yes Bank Junction.

Diversions across key routes

According to a TOI report, vehicles travelling from Siddhivinayak Junction via Veer Savarkar Road will be diverted through SK Bole Road, Portuguese Church, Gokhale Road, Gadkari Junction, LJ Road and Raja Bade Chowk towards the western suburbs.

Traffic from Yes Bank Junction towards Siddhivinayak Junction will not be allowed. Instead, commuters must take alternative routes via Pandurang Naik Road, Raja Bade Chowk, LJ Road, Gadkari Junction and Gokhale Road towards South Mumbai.

No-parking zones announced

Parking will be strictly prohibited on Keluskar Road (North and South), Pandurang Naik Road, and NC Kelkar Road between Gadkari Chowk and Kotwal Garden to prevent congestion.

Parking for official vehicles

Designated parking arrangements have been made for police and civic authorities, including BMC and PWD vehicles, at Veer Savarkar Smarak Hall, Vanita Samaj Hall, Mahatma Gandhi Swimming Pool and Kohinoor PPL in Dadar.

Parade route details

The route march will begin from Gate No 5 of Shivaji Park. It will proceed via Keluskar Road (North), turn at C Ramchandra Chowk, continue onto Veer Savarkar Road, move towards Keluskar Road South junction and conclude at Narali Baug.

Advisory for commuters

Authorities have urged commuters to avoid affected routes between 6 am and noon. Traffic signs will be installed and police officials will be deployed at key areas to guide both motorists and pedestrians.

Parking guidance for visitors

Visitors without authorised car passes have been advised to park at the BMC-operated Kohinoor Parking Lot in Dadar.
