Argument over 70 gram of gold turns violent in Karnataka’s Chamarajanagar, several Injured

Chamarajanagar: In a bizarre incident, a fight over gold ornaments at a wedding reception turned violent Chamarajanagar district of Karnataka. The violence ended in a knife attack, the police said on Wednesday.

According to reports, they reportedly clashed on the streets for just 70 grams of gold. The couple was stabbed and kicked. While the case has been filed at the police station, the injured have been admitted to the hospital.

The wedding was scheduled for Wednesday

Notably, the wedding of Mudasir and Gulnaz Bhanu was scheduled for Wednesday. However, the bride’s family raised an issue with the groom’s family on Tuesday night, after they arrived late during the arshina shastra ceremony.

The issue of gold came up during this discussion. While the bride’s family demanded 100 grams of gold, the groom’s family brought only 30 grams of gold. Upset by this, the bride’s family demanded that the wedding be called off.

Kicked in the groin and stabbed

On Wednesday, a relative identified as Mohammed Kaiser, went to the brides residence to negotiate on behalf of the groom. During the discussion, the bride’s family got angry and started hitting Kaiser physically. He was allegedly hit on the chest and stabbed with a knife. Soon the fight turned more violent and the groom’s relatives, Sameer Ayaz and Shoaib, and the bride’s relatives, Fairoz Khan, Abdul Waheed, and Abdul Arif, were also hit.

Sharing further details, the police said that the injured were first treated at the Kollegal Government Hospital. After this, they were shifted to a private hospital in Mysore and CIMS Hospital in Chamarajanagar. An FIR has also been registered at the Kollegal Town Police Station in connection with the incident. An investigation has been ordered in the case, which is being headed by Deputy Superintendent of Police Dharmendra.
