New Delhi [भारत]July 21 (ANI): A day after the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP)-led protest march, Congress MP Pawan Khera on Tuesday launched a scathing attack on the central government over the police action against student protesters marching to Parliament. He warned that “beating the youth of the country” would result in them facing the “stick of the Constitution” in the future.
In a post on Twitter, Kheda claimed that the previous day was full of “repression and cruelty”, which further increases the “injustice” against young Indians. He said, “To the long list of injustices done to the youth of this country, add yesterday’s shameful chapter – when at the behest of those in power, the sons and daughters of this country were subjected to oppression and cruelty. But those who are beating the youth of the country today on the orders of those in power, will have to face the stick of the Constitution tomorrow.”
Khera’s comments echo the views of Congress MP and Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi, who said peaceful protest is an inviolable and fundamental right and reminded that “the Constitution is your master”.
In a post on Twitter, Rahul Gandhi said, “Peaceful protest is an inviolable and fundamental right. Every police officer and government employee who blindly followed orders to attack innocent students of India should keep this in mind: The Constitution is your master. Power does not last forever. Accountability will definitely be enforced.”
The comments came after a tense day in the capital, where police and protesters clashed during protests demanding the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over the alleged NEET-UG 2026 paper leak.
Police investigation and number of injured
According to Delhi Police, more than 118 police personnel, including officers up to the rank of Special Commissioner, were injured in the clash, with about 60 protesters also reported injured.
Delhi Police is analyzing over 250 videos to identify people involved in the alleged violence during the CJP-led protest march to Parliament, sources said on Tuesday. This reliance on digital evidence comes after FIRs were lodged against unidentified persons for stone pelting and vandalism of vehicles at Connaught Place and Parliament Street.
CJP put forward 3 demands
Meanwhile, a delegation of CJP met Union Health Minister JP Nadda, who is also the leader of the House in the Rajya Sabha, to press for the three demands.
Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) chief spokesperson Saurav Das said they placed three demands before Nadda, including resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and compensation of Rs 1 crore to the families of NEET aspirants, “of whom more than 20 have lost their lives”.
He said activist Sonam Wangchuk, who is in a hospital, “should be released immediately”. Das has said that the protest will continue until Dharmendra Pradhan resigns.
Nadda appealed to the protesters to end their protest and noted on the issue that this was the first time the protest organizers had proposed talks with the government. (ANI)
