Tamil Nadu Weather: Parts of state may receive light to moderate rainfall today | Details

Chennai: Even as hot weather continues to persist in several areas of Tamil Nadu, parts of the state, including coastal districts, Western Ghats, Cauvery delta, southern coastal Tamil Nadu, and Karaikal, may receive light to moderate rainfall tomorrow, the Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) forecast has said.

As per the weather department, even as the western and interior parts of the state are expected to receive rainfall, the temperature in the state capital of Chennai may e climb significantly in the next few days.

Heavy rains expected in western Tamil Nadu

According to RMC, heavy rainfall is expected in western Tamil Nadu. Among places where heavy rainfall is expected are Nilgiris, Coimbatore, and Erode, with the wet spell likely to start later this week and proceed for at least three days. The rainfall is expected due to a low-pressure system prevailing over the state and nearby regions.

The department further said that the system may sustain rainfall activity for the next few days, bringing precipitation to several districts in Tamil Nadu. Districts along with the Western Ghats, as well as coastal areas, may also receive moderate rainfall in the next three days.

While moderate rainfall is also expected over delta districts and coastal belts, officials have asked residents living in low-lying and flood-prone areas to stay alert, as intermittent spells of rain may cause waterlogging in a few areas.

Weather department issues alert for May 2 and May 2

Importantly, the RMC has also issued an alert for May 1 and 2. Issuing a warning for Salem, Krishnagiri, and Dharmapuri, it said that these areas may witness heavy rainfall accompanied by gusty winds.

Even as the rainfall is expected to provide some relief from prevailing heat conditions in the state, officials have asked the district administration to be ready in case of falling trees and power supply issues. The weather department has said it would issue further updates when required.
