Ontario: In a shocking incident, an elderly Sikh man was assaulted by a youth, who allegedly yelled a racial slur at him. The man allegedly asked him to leave Canada, saying, “Get out of my country,” authorities said.
As per authorities, the incident took place on April 22 in Woodstock, Ontario. The youth has been taken in custody and has been charged for his actions, the Woodstock Police said in a statement. The incident reportedly took place when the elderly man was walking on the road. The man was reportedly approached by the youth.
Elderly man targeted due to ethnicity: Police
Sharing details, the police said that the elderly man was targeted due to his ethnicity and the accused yelled racial comments against him. The victim was not physically injured, authorities said further. After the incident, the accused jumped a fence into the Turtle Island School and escaped. No students were harmed during the incident, the statement added further.
“As a result of the investigation, the youth was arrested following the hate-motivated assault. The accused was held in custody for a bail hearing,” it said as per news agency PTI. Videos regarding the incident have also been seen on social media.

The Woodstock Police Service is committed to ensuring all members of the community feel safe and protected. We encourage anyone who has experienced or witnessed a hate-motivated incident to report it to police,” police said.
The Sikh body expresses concern over the incident
“Woodstock Police Service will pursue and hold those who commit hate crimes accountable,” the World Sikh Organisation (WSO) wrote on X and added that it is “deeply concerned” regarding the incident.
“As our recent Anti-Sikh Hate Report shows, these incidents are part of a broader pattern. We need systemic action, including better reporting, public education, and coordinated responses from institutions. If you experience or witness hate, report it to the police and to WSO,” it added further.
