Salim Vastik Arrest: Salim Vastik alias X Muslim alias Salim Khan, who was absconding for 1 year, was arrested by Delhi Police. After getting life imprisonment in the case of kidnapping and murder of a child, he had created a new identity by faking his death.
An arrest from Loni, Ghaziabad has once again revealed the layers of a 31-year-old crime which had once shaken the Delhi Police. The accused Salim Vastik alias X Muslim alias Salim Khan, who was sentenced to life imprisonment in the case of kidnapping and murder of an innocent child, has finally been caught by the police.
The person who was considered dead in the files of Delhi Police was actually roaming in the open air for years under a new identity. Changed his name, changed his face, changed his location and even wrote the story of his own death. But an attack, some viral pictures and information from villagers exposed his 31-year-old secret.
Who is Salim Vastik?
Salim Vastik’s real name is Salim Khan. He is originally from Shamli, Uttar Pradesh. According to police records, about 31 years ago, he along with his partner Anil had kidnapped the son of a businessman in Gokulpuri area of Delhi. After the kidnapping, ransom was demanded from the family. When the money was not received, the accused murdered the innocent child. This incident had created a sensation in Delhi at that time. Delhi Police arrested Salim and his associate after investigation. The court sentenced him to life imprisonment in 1997.

Got bail and then disappeared
In the year 2000, Salim obtained bail from the High Court. He absconded as soon as he came out of jail. The police thought that he would not be able to hide for long, but he changed his entire identity. Leaving Delhi, he reached Loni in Ghaziabad and settled there. Keeping an eye on the activities of the police, he kept changing his location whenever necessary in areas like Meerut, Shamli and Muzaffarnagar. The most shocking thing was that through some medium he conveyed the news to Delhi Police that he had died. Not only this, he allegedly also sent fake documents to the police, due to which the case was shelved.
Created a new identity by creating ‘X Muslim’
Salim not only changed his name but also created a new public identity. He started calling himself ‘X-Muslim’ and started making videos on YouTube on the evils of Islam and religious fanaticism. His videos started going viral rapidly. Because of this, he became the target of many fundamentalist organizations, some clerics and anarchist elements sitting in Pakistan. It is said that for this reason there was a fatal attack on him on 27th February. Two brothers, residents of Amroha, allegedly at the behest of Pakistan-based elements, entered his office and tried to slit his throat. However he survived this attack. Later the police killed both the accused in an encounter.

Attack became reason for arrest
This attack ultimately led to Salim’s arrest. After the attack, many of his pictures went viral in the media and social media. Delhi Police matched these photographs with its old records. Suspicion deepened and then the identity was confirmed. Meanwhile, Salim also sold his ancestral house in Shamli. Due to this the villagers came to know that the person who was thought to be dead was alive. The information received from the village gave a stronger basis to the police. The police kept him under surveillance for about 15 days and finally arrested him two days ago.

Black belt in martial arts, still could not survive
According to the information, Salim is trained in martial arts and has achieved black belt. He also learned Shaolin Kung Fu. He has worked as a martial arts instructor for a long time at Ramjas School in Daryaganj, Delhi. Later he also started jacket supply business from Mustafabad area. However, all his martial arts experience was of no use when he was fatally attacked. The attackers attacked suddenly and he could barely save his life.
Lesson for police, questions for society
This case not only results in the arrest of an absconding criminal, but also exposes many weaknesses in the system. A man who was sentenced to life imprisonment came out on bail, faked his death and escaped police detection for three decades.
The question also arises as to how a convicted criminal lived for so long with a new identity and the system was not even aware of it. Now Delhi Police is busy investigating his old network, those who helped him during his escape and fake documents. This arrest after 31 years is not just the end of a case but also the beginning of many new questions.
