A shocking case has come to light, in which a husband took a loan worth lakhs in the name of his wife, absconded with the car and jewellery, and later went to the court to demand maintenance from the same wife.
Circumstances changed after marriage
Both of them were married on 18 May 2019 in Etawah. Before marriage, both were preparing for competitive examinations. After marriage, the wife got a job in Allahabad High Court, while the husband did not get a government job. Later he did LLB and started practicing law.
Accusations and counter-accusations and rift in relationship
The husband said that his wife’s behavior changed after getting the job. The wife alleged that the husband used to torture her mentally and physically and misused her money.
Loan worth lakhs taken in wife’s name
According to the wife, the husband took two personal loans in her name, one for ₹ 11.5 lakh and the other for ₹ 13.56 lakh. This money was taken in the name of buying land, but later he transferred the entire money to his account and spent it.
Absconded with car and jewellery.
The wife told that the husband left her at her maternal home and later ran away from the house with the car, jewelery and other items. When she asked for the car back, the husband demanded ₹10 lakh.
FIR and court action
The wife lodged an FIR on this in March 2024. The husband tried to get the FIR cancelled, but the court rejected it. Later he filed a case for maintenance, in which the family court ordered him to pay ₹5,000 per month and ₹10,000 as expenses to his wife.
High Court’s strict stance
On April 23, 2026, the Allahabad High Court found that the husband hid his real income by giving false affidavits and financially exploited the wife. The court said that financial and mental exploitation cannot be tolerated in the name of marriage.
Fine of Rs 15 lakh
The court imposed a fine of ₹15 lakh on the husband and said that he had misused the law. The court clearly said that marriage relationship cannot become a means of exploiting anyone.
