Why is two-thirds majority not enough?
According to the Tenth Schedule of the Indian Constitution, the support of only two-thirds of the MPs is not enough to avoid disqualification. The most important condition is the formal merger of the parent political party. That is, if only a group of MPs claims to join BJP, but the entire AAP party does not merge, it will be considered “defection” and not “merger”. This is the legal point that could land Chadha in trouble.
