We hear about incidents like sexual violence every day. Be it home or street, no boy or girl is safe anywhere. These people do not even have the slightest idea that they are doing something wrong which is ruining the society. We want to tell you about a girl who wanted to know why these people do this?

The girl interviewed the prisoners: At the age of just 22, he went to Tihar Jail in Delhi and interviewed the prisoners who were serving time in jail for rape. Today this girl is 26 years old and her name is Madhumita Pandey. Madhumita has interviewed more than 100 prisoners in the last three years. Madhumita had done this interview for her PhD thesis.

What is going on in the mind: Madhumita reached to interview the prisoners. Madhumita was curious to know what is going on in the mind of a prisoner whenever he makes any woman his victim and commits incidents like rape.

This 23 year old prisoner has completed his education till primary school and used to work as a cleaner in a temple. He was convicted in 2010 for raping a five-year-old girl. He told that his victim girl was a beggar, who provoked him when he was busy with his work. When I asked her in detail about this ‘provocation’, she said that ‘she was touching me inappropriately, so I thought I would teach her a lesson.’ His mother is also like him, there are many talks about her character also. ‘The practice of blaming the victim is very common in all such cases, almost all sexual offenders talk like this and this case was no different.’

What Madhumita says: Madhumita says that ‘these prisoners in jail do not even realize that they have committed an incident like rape.’

Why does this happen: After investigating this issue, Mudhamita said that India is still a conservative country where children are deprived of sex education in schools and their parents also do not talk openly to their children about sex and sexual related matters whereas sex education is very important to eliminate the frustrated mentality towards women.
