‘Nothing Like That Happened’: Pakistani Actress Meera Denies Harassment Claims Against Mahesh Bhatt After 15 Yrs

In 2011, Pakistani actress Meera had accused Mahesh Bhatt of being possessive and even slapping her because she met filmmaker Subhash Ghai.

Meera had also alleged that she had to turn down movie offers because  was possessive and would not let her work with any other director.

Mahesh and Meera have worked together in the film Nazar. Now, after 15 years, Meera has taken a U-turn on her statement and has alleged that there was no harassment.

Meera turns down harassment allegations, talks about Alia Bhatt

Pakistani actress Meera is currently awaiting the release of her next film, Psycho, which however, will not be released in India. Talking about the same, Meera said, “India mein release nahi ho rahi. Uska mujhe bahot dukh hai (It’s not releasing in India. I’m very sad about that).”

She further added that Mahesh Bhatt and would have been very happy had the film been released in India. She said, “Woh toh bahot khush hote. Bahot khush hote Mahesh Bhatt, Alia khush hoti. Main jab ghar par hoti thi, toh mere saath soti thi woh. Bade khush hote woh film dekh kar, mujhe call karte (He would be very happy. Mahesh Bhatt would be very happy, Alia would be happy. When I used to be at their home, she would sleep with me. They would be very happy and call me after watching the movie).”

Talking about Alia’s childhood, Meera recalled, “Bahot smart thi, bahot intelligent. Padhaai mein bahot achchi thi (She was very smart, very intelligent. She was very good at studies).”

At the end she addressed the allegations she had levelled against the director and said, “Kabhi bhi nahi. Aisa kuch nahi hai. Bahut acche director hai woh. Collaboration karna chahungi.” (No, nothing like that is there. He is a great director and I would like to do a collab with him.)

What had Meera alleged earlier?

Earlier, in an interview, Meera had revealed that it was because of Mahesh that she had to leave Bollywood and go back to Pakistan. She said, “Logon ne bahut kuch likha is bare mein, aur kaha bhi, but main ab chup nahin rahoongi. Aaj main sach bolna chahti hun. It was not my decision to stop doing films, but I was asked to leave India by Maheshji. He did not like my being famous and interacting with other directors. Once, we had a fight, and then he apologized to me. After that, Mahesh told me that if I cannot handle your problems now, then it would be better if you go back to Pakistan. I went. But when I wanted to come back, they did not let me come. Now, there was no hope left for me to enter Bollywood. He blocked all my paths.”

However, Mahesh Bhatt in an interview with ETimes, shot down all such claims and said, “I have slapped her? First of all, Meera is a unique phenomenon. She is a South Asian Treasure. She’s bizarre and innocent at the same time. She’s smart and then completely childlike the next instant. So you cannot feel outraged by her utterances and feel wrong wronged. What Meera needs more than anything at the moment is a parental gaze, which screams out for an urgent need to rescue her from herself. Her life is screaming out for it. She has an extraordinary talent for getting herself into equations where everyone who is her friend turns hostile towards her. Despite all the strange utterances that have come from her from time to time, I have refused to turn into her enemy.”
