Mumbai: A frustrated commuter confronted Maharashtra’s Water Resources Minister, Girish Mahajan, and local police after a political rally caused massive traffic congestion in the Worli area. The incident took place on Tuesday when a protest march organised by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), part of the ruling Mahayuti alliance, led to severe traffic jams. Roads in Worli were choked for hours, leaving several commuters stranded.

Among those affected was a woman heading to pick up her child from school. Stuck in traffic for hours, she stepped out of her vehicle and walked into the protest site. She confronted Mahajan, questioning the need to block public roads.
“Get out of here. You are causing a traffic jam,” she said, urging organisers to shift the gathering elsewhere. She also asked why the rally could not be held in an open ground nearby.
As Mahajan tried to calm the situation, the commuter continued expressing her anger. “Did you not understand? What is wrong with you? There are hundreds of people waiting,” she said. Pointing to a nearby space, she added, “There is empty ground there.”

She also confronted the Mumbai Police. She insisted on speaking to senior officials when officers attempted to intervene. Eventually, police personnel escorted her away from the centre of the rally and listened to her concerns.
The incident was captured on video and quickly went viral on social media, drawing widespread reactions. Many users criticised the disruption caused by the protest and echoed the commuter’s concerns.
The BJP rally was aimed at targeting the opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) over the failure of the Women’s Reservation Bill.
Maharashtra Congress President Harshwardhan Sapkal shared the video, alleging it exposed the ruling party’s “real face”.
Former state Congress chief Nana Patole also posted the video, calling the protest “drama” and saying it inconvenienced the public. He added that the woman’s reaction reflected broader voter sentiment, especially among women.
