8th Pay Commission: Big update for government employees-pensioners, date for giving suggestions extended till 30th April

Eighth Pay Commission

The 8th Pay Commission of the Government of India has made it clear that the last date for submitting the memorandum through the official website is open till 30th April. This information was given in the press release of April 20, due to which people’s confusion was cleared and the entire process is now clear. The deadline of April 20 was only for those unions and associations who wanted to hold early talks in the initial meetings. All other people like government employees, pensioners and other connected people can still give their suggestions and ideas. That means the remaining days of April are a good opportunity to participate in this process.

Why was the 8th Pay Commission made?

The government has formed the 8th Pay Commission so that the salary, allowances and pension system of government employees and pensioners can be reviewed and changes can be suggested in it as per the need. The government forms such a commission every 10 years, so that salaries and allowances can remain updated according to inflation and changing responsibilities.

According to a press release of the Press Information Bureau (PIB) dated October 28, 2025, the Union Cabinet has approved the Terms of Reference of the 8th Central Pay Commission. Its main objective was to maintain fairness, boost morale and ensure competition with the salaries available in the private sector.

What is the latest update now?

In the clarification issued on April 20, two important deadlines were mentioned. Unions and associations who wanted to have early talks with the Commission in the initial phase were supposed to submit their memorandum by April 20, but this deadline has now passed. However, the big and important deadline for submitting the memorandum through the website is still open till 30th April. This means that those who were not able to express their views earlier, still have a chance to convey their suggestions, demands and ideas to the Commission.
