Regarding this, Dr. Ananya Gupta, former Department of Gastrology, AIIMS Delhi, says that many studies have found that there is no concrete scientific evidence to prove the benefits of liver detox drinks. The liver itself is an organ that purifies the blood and removes harmful elements. In such a situation, there is no need for any separate drink.
Then why are these drinks promoted so much?
Dr. Ananya Gupta tells that there are many detox drinks which contain turmeric, ginger, lemon. These things are beneficial for the body, but it is not that by taking them the liver will always be fit, no matter what you eat. That is, if you eat a lot of fast food. If you drink alcohol and are suffering from obesity then detox drink is of no use. On the other hand, if you take care of your diet, the liver will remain fit on its own and will detoxify itself, in such a situation there is no need of any separate drink.
Why is this trend going on so much?
Dr. Gupta says that many products are now being sold in the name of detox drinks. This is all part of marketing. Whereas, sometimes these products do not have much effect. Even taking them in excessive amounts can cause damage to the liver. In such a situation, do not take such detox drinks without any reason. If there is any problem in liver then contact the doctor.
What is the right way to keep the liver healthy?
- Avoid fast food, if you feel like it, you can eat it once in a month.
- Avoid excessive oily and processed food, limit alcohol consumption, exercise daily, drink enough water.
