Actress Shabana Azmi on Monday joined the ‘Sansad Chalo’ march amid the ongoing Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) protests over the NEET paper leak issue. Marching towards Parliament with the protesters, he described peaceful protest as a constitutional right and appealed to the government to start talks. Shabana also revealed that she and Javed Akhtar had written a letter to the Prime Minister requesting him to initiate a dialogue. At the same time, actresses Kavita Kaushik and Vidya Malvade also supported the students through social media and supported the peaceful protest and demand for justice.
What did Shabana Azmi say in the Parliament march?
Shabana Azmi was seen marching towards Parliament with protesters and students. During this, he said, “We have come here to hold a peaceful protest. This right has been given to us by our Constitution. Mahatma Gandhi has taught us the path of non-violence. We have no intention of doing any kind of violence.” Shabana Azmi told the media that attention should not be diverted from the real demands of the movement. He said, “You are only worried about why Bollywood actors are not in the march. You never ask why big industrialists or businessmen are not there. By asking such questions you push the real issue aside and create unnecessary controversy. You should support the people marching for this issue and not minimize the seriousness of the matter.”

What did Shabana Azmi say on the letter written to the Prime Minister?
Shabana Azmi told that she and her husband Javed Akhtar had written a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi requesting him to start talks. He said, “I wrote a letter to the Prime Minister. Javed Saheb also wrote a letter saying that please just start the conversation. We are not going to the press and do not want to make it a public issue. Being a former Rajya Sabha MP, we are just saying that listen to us. First we got a reply that we would get a reply in two days, but no reply came for two, three and four days. We came here on the fifth day.”
What appeal did Kavita Kaushik make to Delhi Police?
FIR fame actress Kavita Kaushik appealed to Delhi Police by sharing the video on Instagram. She said, “Delhi Police, I want to make a request to you. You also have families—parents, children, siblings and relatives. God forbid that they ever need treatment, then you too would want them to be treated by a qualified doctor and not by a fake doctor. That’s why these students are protesting. So whatever happens, don’t raise your hand on the children and citizens of the country. Don’t hurt them. That’s my only appeal. Don’t show your power in front of them.”

What did Vidya Malvade write in support of the students?
Shahrukh Khan starrer ‘Chak De India’ fame actress Vidya Malvade wrote in an Instagram post, “It breaks my heart to see what is happening in our country at this time. The way Sonam Wangchuk ji was treated is not only disappointing but also scary. But the dignity and restraint that Geetanjali madam has shown is the real identity of this great country.” She further wrote, “Doesn’t every citizen have the birthright to protest peacefully against the injustice done to them? It is beyond comprehension why these young students were forced to take such steps as sacrificing their lives. These students deserve dialogue and justice and I stand with them. Chak De India!”
What is the whole matter of CJP’s protest?
Supporting CJP, Sonam Wangchuk had started an indefinite hunger strike from June 28 over the alleged NEET paper leak issue. In the movement, demands are being raised to fix the accountability of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, demand his resignation, increase transparency in the examination system and comprehensive reforms in the education system. The protesters say that there should be open talks with the government on this entire issue. On July 18, Delhi Police admitted Sonam Wangchuk to the hospital. But reportedly his hunger strike is continuing there too.
