Poison is being sold, not fruit! Strict action on fruits being cooked with chemicals, big alert from FSSAI

Symbolic picture.

There is an important news for fruit eaters. Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has made it clear that the use of dangerous chemicals to ripen fruits quickly will not be tolerated at all. FSSAI has said in the order issued on Thursday that the use of chemicals like calcium carbide is completely banned.

It has been said in the order that cooking fruits like mango, banana, papaya with chemicals like calcium carbide is very harmful for health. This can cause problems like vomiting, skin problems and difficulty in swallowing.

Attempt to cook fruits by dipping them in chemical solution

Not only this, some businessmen are also trying to cook fruits by immersing them in chemical solution like ethephon, which is also strictly prohibited. FSSAI has said that only safe use of ethylene gas is acceptable, that too as per the prescribed rules.

Clear instructions to food safety officers

Now, clear instructions have been given to the food safety officers of the states to conduct strict checks in the mandis, warehouses and wholesale markets. Wherever there is doubt, action should be taken by raiding there. If anyone is found with calcium carbide or such illegal chemicals, legal action will be taken against him.

Strict monitoring of fruits sold in the market

Now special test paper will also be used for testing, through which it can be ascertained whether the fruits have been ripened artificially or not. This means that now the fruits sold in the market will be strictly monitored, so that there is no compromise with people’s health.
