New Delhi: Shreyas Iyer pulled off one of the greatest catches in the history of the Indian Premier League (IPL) at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Thursday, April 16. The Punjab Kings (PBKS) captain’s brilliant effort sent Mumbai Indians (MI) skipper Hardik Pandya back to the dressing room, who was dismissed for 14 runs in the 18th over of the match.
The incident took place on the third ball of the 18th over, when Marco Jansen bowled a length delivery to Hardik Pandya. Despite having a lot of room, Hardik smashed a flat-batted stroke, but lost control of his bottom hand and mistimed the shot.

Stationed in the deep, Iyer ran to his left from long on and leapt while falling backwards. He managed to grab the ball above his head while being in the air. The PBKS captain showed remarkable awareness and lobbed it straight to Bartlett, who completed the catch. Bartlett’s name will appear on the scorecard, but it was all Iyer’s magnificent effort.
