Who has the keys of Badrinath temple?
The doors of Badrinath Dham are opened not by one but by 3 keys. These three keys are not held by any one person but by different people. The first key is with the royal priest of the Tehri royal family of Uttarakhand, the second key is with the Mehta people who have the right to Badrinath Dham and the third key is with the Bhandari people who are the rightful owner of Badrinath Dham. The doors of Badrinath temple open only when these three keys are used together.

Who enters Badrinath temple first?
When Badrinath temple is opened, most of the Rawals i.e. priests enter. The priests ritually remove the white cloth from the idol of the Lord and then perform the puja as per rituals. Only after the entire process is done, common devotees are allowed to enter the temple.
How is the statue installed in the temple?
Badrinath temple is dedicated to Lord Vishnu. Here a one meter high statue of Lord Vishnu is installed in meditation posture. The temple also has statues of Lord Kuber Dev and Lakshmi-Narayan. Five forms of Lord Vishnu are worshiped in the temple, these are called Panchbadri. The names of these 4 forms of Lord Badrinath are Shri Yogdhyan Badri, Shri Bhavishya Badri, Shri Vriddha Badri and Shri Adi Badri.
Why is the temple called Badrinath?
According to mythology, Lord Vishnu had performed rigorous penance at this place in Satyayuga. Goddess Lakshmi provided shade to Vishnu in the form of a plum tree to protect him from the heat of Suryadev during his penance. Another name for plum is Badri. Therefore Lord Vishnu had blessed this place to become famous as Badrinath.
