Bengaluru mother allegedly kills daughter, dies by suicide, 2 separate cases filed

Bengaluru: In a shocking incident, a 45-year-old woman took the life of her own daughter before dying by suicide in Whitefield on the outskirts of Bengaluru. While the homemaker mother has been identified as Suvarna (45), her daughter has been identified as Karunya (14), the police said.

Sharing details, the police said they received information on Tuesday morning, after which they rushed to the residence where the two bodies were found. The prelim forensic findings have suggested that the mother allegedly  smothered her daughter to death before dying by suicide by hanging from a ceiling fan.

What Bengaluru Police said in the statement

“Whitefield police station received information stating that a mother and daughter had died at around 11 am. Police and SOCO teams visited the spot and found that the mother had smothered the daughter and then hanged herself. Two separate cases have been registered, and the investigation is ongoing,” Bengaluru Police said in a statement.

At the time of the incident, Suvarna’s husband, Chandrashekhar, was out for work. He works as a medical assistant at a hospital. Chandrashekhar left for his work in the morning as usual. When Suvarna did not pick his calls, he asked one of his relatives to visit his residence. He also reached home at around 11 AM, when the incident came to light, India Today reported.

Two separate cases filed

Two separate cases have been filed in the incident. While Chandrashekhar filed one case alleging that his wife killed their daughter, another FIR was filed by Suvarna’s brother, who expressed doubts over the incident and called for a detailed probe into the incident.

Both bodies have been sent for post-mortem. Suvarna’s family members said that she was upset due to financial constraints. Her sister Usha claimed that she used to speak to her regularly regarding the issue.
